The project serves the city of Champaign as a public bike-sharing collective; the program offers free access to a publicly-owned bicycle fleet. The program strives to transform the downtown area into a haven for pedestrian and bicycle culture while concurrently reducing the prevalence of automobiles for short trips and diminishing traffic congestion, noise, and air pollution. The program also provides sustainable transportation to link the developing urban environment with the nearby university campus.
